Credu Officially Launched

6 July 2005

The CREDU Portal for young people was officially launched on Monday 27th June by Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development & Transport, at the Urdd Centre in the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.

Young people like Harriet Eloise Brewster (18) and Emma Dixon (17) from Flintshire in North Wales, who have already made many contributions to the CREDU portal, delighted in showing their work to Mr. Davies during the launch (pictured above).

The CREDU portal, developed by Connect Internet Solutions, has an underpinning content management system, and is split into eight different zones offering young people the chance to compete in weekly competitions, to write feature articles, soap story episodes, to vote or participate in live online chats or voice their opinions in a forum.

The portal also provides registered users with a private, password protected VIP account, accessible from anywhere around globe with Internet access. Inside “VIP”, the user can store photographs or images in a scrapbook, generate and save CVs, balance their money with the My Money budgeting tool and manage their time with an online journal and calendar. Registered users are also provided with a free CREDUmail e-mail account (a service also provided by Connect Internet Solutions).

Elsewhere on the portal, features are refreshed every Friday with new content based around a “Theme of the Week”. This includes a fact-based, informative feature article, professional profiles detailing potential jobs or activities stemming from the theme, interviews with professionals in relevant fields, How 2...worksheets, an episode of “Abercredu” – a fictional soap opera set in Wales - and real-life stories written by young people about issues and experiences important to them.

Carole Boardman, Director of Connect Internet Solutions, commented, “Connect is delighted to have produced an interactive and engaging portal which is proving to be really successful in engaging young people and encouraging participation in this exciting initiative.”
