The Challenge
To deliver a new organisational intranet that effectively
channels internal communications.
The Solution
As the Trust felt that their existing intranet needed improved
organisation and visual appeal, a fundamental re-think was needed
to address structure, lay-out and navigation. The new system also
had to integrate with a new central document management repository
holding content that needed to be commonly accessed via the
intranet.
To get to the heart of these issues, we conducted discovery
workshops in an open forum with groups of staff from the PCT,
discussing key intranet objectives and identifying goals. The
outcome formed a basis for planning the site structure and
content.
We delivered the intranet using an open source content
management system that integrated with NCtPCT’s document management
system SharePoint. Branding and stylistic consistency of the
intranet was adopted from their internet site.
The Results
Our partnership has resulted in a clearly laid out, user
friendly intranet that is highly functional and easily
navigated. The successful integration of the document
management system has produced a more efficient system that has
eliminated the need to duplicate documents in the content
management system. The solution has met its goals for
internal communication, improving efficiency and providing
essential information to staff on a day-to-day basis.
