TALK Portal - Local Authorities share best practice

The Challenge

To deliver an engaging portal for use by local authorities to enable them to share and disseminate knowledge and experience of implementing national ICT projects that address the ODPM's transformational government agenda.

Transferring Across Local Knowledge Screengrab

The Solution

Understanding the need for true collaboration by the portal’s users, we delivered a wiki-based solution as a platform to enable multiple people to work together on the same content, at the same time without the need to ask others to upload or edit the content for you. We’ve included extensive social networking and personalisation aspects such as blogs, 'My Network (creating a personal network of friends), 'Common Connections' (linking users via other users), 'Followers' (the ability to follow users contributions to TALK), 'Favorites' (listing your favorite parts of the website), 'Personal Tagclouds' (personal taxonomies for each user) and 'Personal Profile' (having a visible profile for each user).

The Results

What began as a project to carry out research into the National Projects has morphed into something which provides people in local government with spaces where they can work together - a place that people can make connections with each other, and learn from what other people are doing and collaborate on projects.

TALK attracts over 3,000 page requests per month, with currently 834 registered users active within 64 workspaces all collabarting and sharing tacit knowledge.
