Extranet for government economists

The Challenge

To develop an easily managed and secure extranet to improve communications amongst the professional community of 900 economists working in 30 government departments and agencies across the UK.

GES Screengrab

The Solution

Commissioned by the Government Economics Service, we provided a content-managed extranet, supporting the required easy update on a daily basis by non-technical authors within GES.  To ensure contact details for members are kept current, we developed a members directory, maintained by individual GES members managing their own details as well as departmental managers providing overall management.

The Results

With 13,000 page requests per month, the extranet is a key resource to GES members, facilitating job moves and career development within the service and allowing economists in government to keep up to date with policy developments, and to share information and best practice. The self-managed members directory ensures that, despite the considerable movement of economists in government, up to date contacts for all GES members are available.
